If you believed that CES 2025 would be uninteresting for OLED gaming monitors, you are mistaken. Samsung is already paving the way for the event with a couple of new OLED gaming monitors under the Odyssey label, one of which pushes display technology to unprecedented heights with a staggering 500Hz refresh rate.

The Odyssey OLED G6 is a brand-new 27-inch 1440p QD-OLED offering from Samsung, capable of achieving 500Hz, marking a tremendous advancement for OLED displays. Last year, we encountered monitors like the Alienware 27 QD-OLED that could surpass 360Hz at 1440p, along with dual refresh rate displays such as the LG UltraGear Dual Mode OLED that could hit 480Hz at 1080p. With Samsung’s latest display, you can indeed have the best of both worlds — enjoying a full 1440p resolution and that remarkable 500Hz refresh rate.

Merely two years prior, we witnessed the unveiling of the initial 500Hz monitors ever, like the Alienware AW2524H. The draw was primarily its refresh rate, as this monitor, amongst others, utilized a rather weak IPS panel with inadequate brightness and a limited color spectrum. Two years later, that 500Hz benchmark emerges on an OLED display. The Odyssey OLED G6 takes the spotlight this year; however, Samsung has another duo of gaming displays. The Odyssey OLED G8 is also a 27-inch display but features a 4K resolution and 240Hz refresh rate. We have already observed the abilities of this panel in the Asus ROG Swift PG27UCDM, and it is quite impressive. Although the Odyssey OLED G8 does not shine quite as brightly as the OLED G6, it still offers a 4K display at 27 inches, which OLED enthusiasts have been requesting.

Both monitors are equipped with Samsung’s HDR10+ standard, which utilizes dynamic HDR metadata akin to Dolby Vision. It can indicate tone mapping and dynamic range on a frame-by-frame basis, delivering a significantly more uniform HDR experience tailored to the game you’re playing or the film you’re viewing. Additionally, both OLED displays incorporate Samsung’s OLED Safeguard+ to prevent burn-in.
