“West Australians’ Aspirations for 2025: From Marathon Triumphs to Dream Homes”

Well-being, prosperity, and joy — these were the initial aspirations that sprang to mind for numerous West Australians as they entered the New Year.

There were countless methods individuals opted for to usher in the new year, ranging from midnight beach gatherings to early morning runs and matcha lattes.

The ABC engaged with individuals unwinding by Scarborough Beach to discuss their aspirations and visions for 2025.

‘A blank canvas’

Numerous individuals were jotting down in journals, lounging on the grass, while others engaged in conversations regarding life ambitions with family and friends.

Beachgoer Aldo Misiani did not need to search far for his ambitions for the upcoming year.

“[I aim to] likely learn to find happiness within myself and to embrace my own identity while being at ease in solitude,” he expressed.

“I’ve got supportive family and wonderful friends here. I’d say that is my primary concern.”

German traveler Paul Glëser revealed that a “west-coast lifestyle” has motivated him to become more sociable — a skill he intends to carry into 2025.

“Be kind, be courteous, and then you’ll have a delightful conversation that could evolve into friendship.” 

Karoyln Zinetti is looking forward to the year ahead, referring to it as a “blank canvas” for her to mold as she wishes.

Others discussed aspirations related to fitness, including one woman aiming to tackle a marathon, while a visiting couple from the UK were taking advantage of cycling along Perth’s coastal paths.

Ambitious targets

Attaining significant life objectives was also part of the vision.

Adam Marshall and Emma Gallagher aim to break into the property market and find their dream home.

“We are merely setting aside funds, organizing our objectives to potentially acquire a house within the next year or two, followed by traveling in 2026,” stated Mr. Marshall.

“We are attempting to maintain discipline and establish our plans and work diligently.”

“It will be tough, but we are eager for it.”

Embracing gratitude

Residents and visitors alike commended the WA way of life, “embracing gratitude” for their existence and environment.

Mr. Glëser and his partner Rebecca Hahn remarked that exploring the state has been a dream.

“Our lifestyle comprised of vineyard visits, surfing, vineyard.” he expressed.

“Thus, it’s difficult to say if anything requires alteration? It’s genuinely fantastic.”

Mr. Marshall concurs and considers WA to be the “hidden gem” of Australia.

Housing crisis

Nonetheless, it was not solely personal aspirations and reflections occupying the thoughts of West Australians.

Numerous individuals had recommendations on how the state administration could enhance things as the new year approached.

Real estate professional Erit David mentioned that the expense of renting and buying a home appeared excessive for many.

“I observe it, experience it. I encounter it every single day. And our administration is neglecting us,” she remarked.

“Across all social groups, there’s a notable constriction of affordability and available rental properties. And individuals are profoundly feeling the strain.”

This feeling was echoed by multiple locals, urging the administration to prioritize the rental crisis as the new year commences.
