Farewell, 2024; and greetings to 2025 and the emergence of yet another winter season in the Finger Lakes.

Here are five activities to engage in within the Canandaigua and Finger Lakes region this winter, beginning January.

1. Stout Month in Canandaigua

The fifth edition of Stout Month in Canandaigua was designed to draw customers to local breweries during what is usually a slow month.

Informed by customer insights, this year’s event has been somewhat scaled down, with the participating breweries being Frequentem, Peacemaker, Twisted Rail, Naked Dove, and the Other Half Lakeshore (previously Young Lion), all conveniently located in Canandaigua.

Visitors receive a stamp on a card after sampling a stout at any of the participating breweries. Due to their close proximity, completing the stamp card has become more feasible with less travel compared to previous years, as mentioned by David D’Allesandro, co-owner of Frequentem and an event organizer.

“We also wish to acknowledge our partners at Noble Shepherd, Reinvention, and Rebel Sailor, who will likely have stouts available and are excellent additional stops while exploring during Stout Month, or any time, really,” D’Allesandro noted.

“This event showcases the craft beer landscape we have here in Canandaigua and assists in promoting everything the city offers, even in the colder months,” D’Allesandro added.

Frequentem unveiled its 2025 American Imperial Stout on January 1 and will have it on tap throughout the month. Weekly small-batch stout releases will feature collaborations with Working Class Coffee in Canandaigua.

2. Finger Lakes Winter Carnival

The fourth annual Finger Lakes Winter Carnival is another enjoyable way to engage people in the region during the winter months.

Participants are encouraged to shop, taste, and enjoy various activities in the Finger Lakes during this three-day event, which begins on Friday, January 17, and concludes on Sunday, January 19.

The Shop the Finger Lakes event will take place at Bristol Mountain, located at 5662 State Route 64, South Bristol, from 4 to 8 p.m. on January 17 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on January 18.

The Taste the Finger Lakes segment will happen from noon to 4 p.m. on January 18 at New York Kitchen, 800 S. Main St., Canandaigua.

The Winter Carnival, featuring a variety of family-friendly activities, will occur from noon to 4 p.m. on January 18 and January 19 at the Lake House on Canandaigua event barn, 770 S. Main St., Canandaigua. Admission is $5 per person, with all proceeds benefiting the Winter in Canandaigua committee to support future events.

Events and promotions at local businesses in downtown Canandaigua are also anticipated for that weekend.
