Although I thoroughly prepared for my maternity leave (detailed in Episode 55 – Planning for Maternity Leave as a Multi-6 Figure Entrepreneur), the truth after childbirth was quite different. Although I was grateful for an uncomplicated delivery and a quick recovery, I swiftly understood that you can’t entirely brace yourself for this new chapter in life. I initially aimed for six weeks completely off, followed by one hour of work weekly, but discovered at the six-week point that I wasn’t prepared to go back. The newborn phase is special, and with sleep routines and breastfeeding hurdles, I required more time.

Economic Achievement During Leave

A frequent inquiry I encounter is about sustaining income while on maternity leave. Due to having successfully scaled my business beforehand, I was able to consistently achieve five-figure months ($20,000+) while on leave without dipping into my savings. This was made feasible through:

  • Recurring payment schedules and advance enrollments in my educational enterprise
  • Digital product sales
  • My associate team photographing weddings in 2024
  • Effective systems and workflows established prior to leave

After considerable thought and reflection, my husband and I decided for him to leave his 9-5 position and join my business as COO. This change offers us increased flexibility, improved work-life balance, and the capacity to grow the business while ensuring quality time with our son. As my father aptly expressed, it’s akin to “two separate streams converging into a single river.”
