LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 24 UCLA Swimming & Diving team commenced the 2025 segment of the schedule with a tri-meet against No. 12 Wisconsin and UC San Diego at the CanyonView Aquatics Center located on the UC San Diego campus. UCLA divided the competition, triumphing over UC San Diego 177.0-133.0, while the Badgers outperformed the Bruins 195.0-86.0.

Initially, the 200 medley relay team consisting of Fay Lustria, Eva Carlson, Emma Harvey, and Ana Jih-Schiff secured second place in the event with a time of 1:40.26, finishing behind Wisconsin’s A squad.

In the first individual race of the day, Ashley Kolessar achieved second place in the 500 freestyle, claiming silver with a time of 4:56.16. For the 100 backstroke, Harvey, Claudia Yovanovich, and Amy Zhang finished in second, fourth, and fifth with times of 54.19, 57.55, and 57.59 respectively.

Karolina Piechowicz brought home the third podium position for the Bruins, finishing third in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 29.30. Carlson followed closely in fourth place at 29.32. Mia Chang added another bronze to the tally for the Bruins in the 100 butterfly, finishing with a time of 56.12.

UCLA claimed second, third, and fourth places in the 50 backstroke. Harvey placed second in 25.63, Lustria was third in 25.96, and Chang took fourth in 26.36.

Carlson earned her second podium finish of the day in the 100 breaststroke, finishing third with a time of 1:03.31. In the 50 freestyle, Jih-Schiff also secured her second podium appearance, touching the wall in 23.29.

Freshman Josie Arbuckle added another podium finish for the Bruins in the 100 freestyle, completing the race in 52.86, while Katy Pacher finished fifth in 53.17.

Rosie Murphy earned UCLA’s ninth podium finish of the day by taking third in the 200 individual medley, finishing in 2:03.80, while senior Paige MacEachern secured fifth in 2:06.39.

To conclude the meet, the Bruins placed second in the 400 freestyle relay. The team composed of Harvey, Carlson, Arbuckle, and Jih-Schiff finished second with a time of 3:25.44.

Next Up: The Bruins will return to the pool on Saturday, January 11, as they compete against Utah in Salt Lake City. The meet is slated to commence at 11 am PT.
