TEMPE – During the opening weekend of 2025, the No. 3/14 Sun Devil Swim and Dive squad secured victories in all their respective events on Saturday afternoon at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The No. 3 men’s squad triumphed with a score of 233-66, while the No. 14 women’s team achieved a score of 248-48.

Caroline Bentz claimed victory in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events, finishing the 100 free in 48.73 seconds and securing the 200 free in 1:47.41. She also participated in the first-place 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Freshman Tolu Young captured the 50 free in 19.90 seconds, the only swimmer of the day to record a sub-20 time, and won the 100 butterfly in 47.62 seconds.
Alexa Reyna dominated the distance events, winning the 1650 free with a time of 16:48.07 and the 500 free in 4:48.42. Daniel Matheson triumphed in the 500 free with a time of 4:21.69 and also won the 400 IM in a remarkable 3:52.31.

- Sophomore Kayden Hayes emerged victorious in the 1m diving event with a tally of 276.00 points, while Mayori Coriano secured third place with 243.60 points.
- For the men’s competition, Lane Stallworth claimed the top spot in the 1m diving event with 315.90 points.
- In the 3m diving event, Mayari Coriano took the lead with a total of 254.85 points. In second place was Ashlyn Kirsch with 247.20 points, while Kayden Hayes followed with 243.60 points. The men’s event was won by Caleb Liban with 311.55 points.

200 Medley Relay
Both the men’s and women’s teams secured first place in the relay, marking a strong start to the meet. Additionally, the Arizona State men’s and women’s teams captured both second and third places, completing a clean sweep in the relays.
1650 Free
The women’s 1650 freestyle saw ASU’s Alexa Reyna taking the lead with a finishing time of 16:48.07, followed by Katherine Randall in second place with a time of 16:59.9 and Lia Csulak securing third with a time of 17:07.8. Caroline Bentz led the women’s team with a first-place finish at 1:47.41. Zoe Summer and Jordan Greber followed to capture second and third place, giving the Sun Devils their second sweep of the meet. In the men’s 200 yard freestyle, Tiago Behar placed first with a time of 1:34.79, followed closely by Jonny Kulow and Ilya Kharun in second and third.
100 Back
Payden Rafferty achieved the best time in the 100 yard backstroke event with a finish of 54.51 seconds. Seniors Hana Edwards and Emma Gatzke finished second and third with times of 54.96 and 55.98 respectively. The men’s competition featured Lucien Vergnes with a leading time of 46.66 seconds, followed by Jono Adam at 47.82 and Jack Wadsworth finishing at 48.32.
100 Breast
Both the men’s and women’s teams secured first place in the 100 yard breaststroke, with Iza Adame achieving a time of 1:01.06. Andy Dobrazanski dominated the men’s heat, winning the event with a time of 52.92.
200 Fly
The ASU women’s team swept this event with Julia Ullmann registering a winning time of 1:59.82, followed by Grace Lindberg at 2:00.71 and Vivian Wilson who finished third with a time of 2:06.39. For the men, Filip Senc-Samardzic clinched victory in 1:46.37, with Jake Mason at 1:47.05 and Cale Martter finishing in 1:50.18.
50 Free
The women’s team dominated the 50 yard freestyle by achieving a complete sweep. Indigo Armon claimed first place in 23.15 seconds, with Miriam Sheehan and Erin Milligan closing in for second and third place respectively.
On the men’s side, newcomer Tolu Young soared to finish with an impressive sub 20 second time of 19.90, securing first position.
100 Free
The women’s squad kicked off the event with enthusiasm, led by Caroline Bentz‘s remarkable finishing time of 48.73, just a heartbeat off a school record. Julia Ullmann and Catherine Vaughan secured second and third places respectively, clocking in at 50.44 and 52.37. Among the men, the top time was achieved by Ilya Kharun, who sprinted to a speedy 42.15, closely followed by Filip Senc-Samardzic and Tiago Behar, who finished with times of 44.28 and 44.44.
200 Back
Ella Guifoil spearheaded the women’s team to a complete sweep in the 200 yard backstroke, finishing at 1:59.14. Both Hana Edwards and Payden Rafferty completed their races under 2 minutes, taking second and third. In the men’s race, Lucien Vergnes finished with a time of 1:44.95 to claim first place, while Jono Adam secured second place with a 1:47.64 finish.
200 Breast
The women achieved a thorough sweep in the 200 breaststroke, with Emma Gehlert winning the event in 2:13.34, followed by Iza Adame who placed second at 2:14.82, and freshman Kaelia Hughes finishing in 2:15.79. On the men’s side, Andy Dobrzanski triumphed with a time of 1:55.30, and Cale Martter clinched third with 2:02.89.
500 Free
The women’s team kept their momentum, sweeping the 500 yard freestyle event. Alexa Reyna led the Sun Devils to victory with a time of 4:48.42. Elli Straume and Lia Csulak followed closely, finishing in second and third place. The men’s team mirrored this sweep, with Daniel Matheson taking first with a time of 4:21.69. Jake Mason and Reece Grady finished just behind Matheson, capturing second and third places.
100 Fly
The women’s squad dominated the 100 yard butterfly, led by Hannah Hurleman‘s finishing time of 54.99. 400 Free Relay
The men’s and women’s teams concluded the day on a high note, each securing first place in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The women achieved victory with a time of 3:20.50, utilizing a team comprising Bentz, Milligan, Brinker, and Straume. On the men’s side, they won the relay in a swift 2:52.94, with Sammon, Behar, Osterndorf, and Wadsworth leading the charge.
