WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris intends to conclude her tenure with a global journey that includes visits to Singapore, Bahrain, and Germany, as stated by her office.

The journey, slated to occur from Jan. 13 to Jan. 17, will provide Harris with a last chance to tackle U.S. foreign policy dilemmas before Donald Trump assumes office. Doug Emhoff, the second gentleman, is anticipated to accompany the vice president.

While she has not revealed her forthcoming plans after the presidential election defeat, the extensive travel indicates that Harris may aim to maintain a presence on the international front. There is also conjecture that Harris might pursue a gubernatorial position in her native California.

Dean Lieberman, Harris’ deputy national security adviser, noted in a written statement that “the vice president deemed it significant to spend part of her concluding days in office expressing gratitude and engaging directly with U.S. servicemembers stationed abroad, which, as she has mentioned, has been one of her most meaningful privileges as vice president.”

U.S. forces are stationed at all three locations Harris will visit.

Harris intends to visit Changi Naval Base in Singapore and engage with leaders of the city-state. Singapore’s strategic position in the Indo-Pacific region establishes it as a vital ally for addressing matters concerning China, including the freedom of navigation in the South China Sea.

The following destination is Bahrain, where Harris will tour the headquarters of the U.S. 5th Fleet, active in the Persian Gulf. This fleet has been involved in efforts to safeguard Israel from Iranian threats and protect regional shipping from the Houthis in Yemen.

Harris’ concluding visit will be to Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, which hosts a deployment of U.S. Air Force fighter aircraft. She aims to discuss the significance of NATO in countering Russia, which commenced a full-scale invasion of Ukraine nearly three years ago.

Harris has previously traveled to Germany and Singapore. Bahrain will mark her 22nd nation visited during her term.

“The vice president remains committed to a robust U.S. leadership role globally, as it serves the security and prosperity of the American populace, and she will reinforce this throughout her journey,” Lieberman stated.
