Nvidia Launches Cutting-Edge Gaming Chips and Desktops to Fortify AI Dominance

(Bloomberg) — Nvidia Corp. Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang revealed an array of new chips, software, and services, intending to maintain a leading position in artificial intelligence computing.

Huang took the podium at a crowded venue in Las Vegas to commence the CES trade show on Monday, unveiling the new product lineup and presenting his vision of how AI will permeate the economy. The corporation aims for its offerings to be central to a future technology ecosystem comprising a billion humanoid robots, 10 million automated factories, and 1.5 billion autonomous vehicles and trucks.

Interest in Nvidia’s offerings and Huang’s predictions has surged as firms hurry to implement new AI computing hardware. The CEO presented Nvidia’s products and strategic vision to his audience of hundreds for over 90 minutes, including partnerships with Toyota Motor Corp. and MediaTek Inc. that boosted their stock prices by over 3%.

Prior to Huang’s address, shares in Asian chip manufacturers climbed due to optimism regarding Nvidia’s outlook, whose stock had just achieved a new all-time peak. The week before, Microsoft Corp. has announced plans to invest $80 billion in its AI data center expansion, a substantial portion of which will be directed toward Nvidia.

Before his main pitch about technology meant for data centers, Huang showcased some innovations for his traditional audience: gamers. Nvidia is set to release an update to its GeForce GPUs — short for graphics processing units — designed with the same Blackwell architecture that the company employs in its AI accelerators, Huang expressed.

The new GeForce 50 series cards will leverage Blackwell’s functionalities to craft even more immersive experiences for computer gamers, the firm disclosed. While classic graphics chips construct an image by determining the shade of every pixel in the picture, the new technology will rely more on AI to predict what the subsequent frame should entail.

“GeForce enabled AI to become accessible to the public, and now AI is integrating with GeForce,” Huang stated during the presentation.

The flagship RTX 5090 version will launch later this month priced at $1,999, with less potent versions to follow. The RTX 5070, at a cost of $549, will make its debut in February, exhibiting superior performance compared to the previous range’s superior model, the RTX 4090, according to Nvidia.

As recently as 2022, gaming was Nvidia’s primary source of revenue. Now, the chip producer’s data center division is considerably larger. It’s set to generate over $100 billion this year, as the company’s accelerator chips are sought after by the world’s largest technology corporations. The next step involves distributing hardware and software to a broader range of businesses and government entities, aiding in diversifying Nvidia’s income.
