Artificial intelligence is swiftly reshaping our world, extending beyond backend functions and becoming a significant subject of everyday discussions. During the fourth installment of the Times of India-Gadgets Now Awards 2023, a panel conversation entitled “AI-powered Gadgets: Revolutionizing Enterprise Efficiency and Productivity” delved into the substantial effects of AI.
The panel, moderated by Prasad Sanyal, head of business at Times Internet, featured Vinay Kumar, director of AI at Microsoft, and Devesh Mohan, sales director at GSI Canonical.

AI in daily life

Kumar underscored the growing acceptance of AI among consumers, noting that AI assistants are becoming standard. “AI will ease our daily tasks in various ways,” he remarked, providing instances such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini, which offer assistance in activities like vacation organization and meeting summaries.

Addressing apprehensions

Sanyal posed significant concerns regarding AI’s implications for user privacy and data protection. He stressed the necessity for solid regulations to protect user information. Mohan reiterated these worries, emphasizing the criticality of accountability for companies employing AI.

Job transformation and creation

Confronting the widespread anxiety over job loss due to AI, Kumar contended that while certain positions may become obsolete, numerous new opportunities will arise. Mohan drew comparisons to the initial worries regarding the internet’s expansion, asserting that “AI won’t advance slowly; its effects will be swift.”

The horizon of AI

Looking toward 2047, Kumar imagines AI as a significant aide, enhancing human abilities while preserving human control at the forefront. He pointed out the revolutionary potential of AI in fields such as education and healthcare.
Mohan acknowledged the challenges in forecasting AI’s long-term outcomes but highlighted its capacity to transform education and skill enhancement. He underscored AI’s ability to tailor learning experiences and combat learning poverty.
The panel concluded that although the potential advantages of AI are vast, responsible advancement and regulation are vital to ensure AI is utilized for the advancement of mankind.
