“Celebrating 63 Years of Winter Joy at Lake George Carnival”

LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10)– The Lake George Winter Carnival is approaching, and organizers are reinstating classic and traditional festivities. Celebrating its 63rd year, this month-long winter weekend attraction commences on Saturday, February 1, throughout the community.

The festivities for the opening weekend commence on Saturday with opening ceremonies at noon, featuring speeches from local government officials, a parade along Canada Street from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and a fireworks display at 7 p.m. launched from MacDonald’s Pier in Shepard Park. Attendees can look forward to complimentary hot chocolate and s’mores every weekend, canine talent contests, tie-dye shirt making, and much more.

Outhouse Competitions

The notorious outhouse races will take place twice this year, on February 1 and February 22. Teams of five, comprising one rider, two pushers, and two pullers, will navigate their customized outhouses through a course on the frozen Lake George.

Outhouses eligible for racing must be constructed from wood, aluminum, fiberglass, or steel, measuring four feet by four feet and standing six feet tall. They must also feature a push bar or plate at the back that extends no more than one foot from the sides and should not have doors or windows. The combined weight of the outhouse and rider must reach a minimum of 250 pounds.

Enrolling as a team costs $50, and registration can be done online. The total prize pool for the races is $2,000 each weekend.

Cook-Off Challenge

Each carnival weekend hosts a distinct cook-off event evaluated by local businesses and ticket-holding participants. From wings to macaroni and cheese, the carnival offers myriad culinary delights. Tickets are limited and are available for purchase online in advance. The timetable is presented below.

Car Ice Racing

Sanctioned car ice racing will occur on Saturday, February 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Experienced drivers with over 40 years of ice driving expertise will tackle a challenging track across the frozen expanse of Lake George.

The Adirondack Motor Enthusiast Club will spearhead the event, drawing motor aficionados and winter sports enthusiasts. The races are contingent on ice conditions, and spectator entry is complimentary.

Motorcycle/ ATV Ice Racing

The motorcycle and ATV ice racing events are set for Saturday, February 15, and Sunday, February 16, from noon to 4 p.m. These races, sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association, will challenge speed, skills, and maneuvers.

Jeep Duck Hunt

The third annual Duck Hunt will take place during the carnival’s opening weekend from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Teams will search for rubber ducks concealed throughout Warren County for a chance to secure a $500 cash reward and other giveaways.

Teams must register online ahead of time and pay a registration fee of $25 to take part. The awards ceremony for the Jeep Duck Hunt will take place at 5 p.m. at the Lake George Courtyard Marriott.

Polar Plunge

On every weekend, carnival-goers can brave the icy waters of Lake George with a polar plunge. Participants can dive into the lake from 3 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Advance registration is mandatory and can be completed online prior to plunging. The Polar Plunge has been a carnival tradition since 1973, and participants should be prepared with warm, dry clothing to change into afterward.

Dog’s Got Talent Contest

Local businesses have generously contributed to the contest by donating prizes. Awards will be given to the dog that receives the loudest applause for their demonstrated talents.

Horse and Carriage Rides

Every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m., carnival attendees can enjoy a ride on a horse and carriage along Canada Street. This enchanting ride costs $10 for adults and $5 for children.
