December Spotlight: Meet Tamie Smith, Waushara County Photography Club’s Star Winner!

When asked how the club motivated her, she stated, “Although I haven’t been able to participate in club gatherings in person due to my professional and familial obligations, I remain actively involved through the club’s Facebook page. Observing the artwork shared by others and their distinct interpretations of beauty encourages me to approach my own photography with a more critical perspective and a heightened appreciation for artistic expression.”

Which type of camera did you utilize for your winning image? “For this picture, I employed my Samsung S24 Ultra. Even though it’s a smartphone, contemporary mobile devices provide remarkable camera quality. They’re also exceptionally handy and portable, facilitating the capture of moments as they occur. I stumbled upon the ornaments while exploring a store. They piqued my interest, prompting me to draw out my phone and take several shots.”

Many individuals are curious about the impact of AI on photography; Tamie expressed her views, “I don’t think AI will render photography irrelevant. Photography is an artistic medium that communicates sentiments and emotions in a manner that only humans can achieve. AI is merely a mechanism—it has its appropriate functions, such as restoring treasured photos of loved ones or refining images of extraordinary moments. It enhances photography rather than substituting the creativity and passion that infuse it.”
