Hoosier Spirit: Unleashing the Power of Indiana University Athletics

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Four participants from the No. 2/6 Indiana swimming and diving squad received Big Ten weekly honors on Wednesday (Jan. 8), according to a conference statement, following the men’s and women’s dual meet split at No. 4/4 Florida on Friday (Jan. 3).
 
Indiana secured both the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week and Diver of the Week accolades, achieving four out of the six awards available during this cycle.
 
Big Ten Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Owen McDonald
 
Junior Owen McDonald earned his third Big Ten Swimmer of the Week title this season after winning all his individual events in the men’s victory at Florida. McDonald triumphed in both backstroke events and added a third win in the 200-yard IM.
 
Big Ten Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Anna Peplowski
 
Claiming her fourth career swimmer of the week honor and her first this season, senior Anna Peplowski also secured victories in her individual events on Friday. Peplowski finished ahead of fellow Olympian Emma Weyant in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.78) by 2.37 seconds and in the 200 IM (1:59.10) by 27 hundredths. Her third win was in the 100 free (48.90), where she achieved a 1-2 finish alongside teammate Kristina Paegle. The senior also recorded the fastest split in the 400-yard freestyle relay, anchoring IU with a time of 48.21.
 
Big Ten Men’s Diver of the Week: Carson Tyler
 
Senior Carson Tyler was awarded his first Big Ten weekly accolade this season, bringing his career total to seven. Tyler and fellow senior Quinn Henninger dominated the springboards during Indiana’s victory, with both capturing a first and second place finish. He clinched the 1-meter board with a score of 425.33, finishing 40 points ahead of the competition, achieving 65 points or more on each of his dives. Henninger narrowly surpassed Tyler on the 3-meter board with a score of 385.88 to Tyler’s 385.43. Tyler overtook Florida’s Peyton Donald with a final-round score of 74.40 to secure the No. 2 position.
 
Big Ten Women’s Diver of the Week: Ella Roselli
 
Sophomore Ella Roselli earned her first career Big Ten weekly recognition with top-three placements on both boards this Friday. Roselli triumphed on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 297.53, beating the competition by 19.43 points, and finished third on the 3-meter board with 324.53.
