Unlocking Adventure: Score $49 Flights Nationwide with Southwest’s Newest Sale – Your Booking Guide!

Southwest Airlines is welcoming the new year with significant discounts on flights, reward points, holiday packages, and more.

The airline’s “Week of WOW” promotional event commenced on Tuesday and is scheduled to run until 11:59 p.m. PT on January 9. Flights are being offered starting at just $49 for one-way travel, with trips available until May, as shared by Southwest with Travel + Leisure.

“We’re thrilled to assist our Customers eager to organize their next journey by providing unique travel promotions across our flights, car rentals, hotels, and holiday packages,” stated Jennifer Bridie, the vice president of marketing at Southwest Airlines, in a declaration made to T+L. “Naturally, all our promotions include the kind of flexibility and value that our Customers appreciate. This week, we’re simplifying trip planning to kick off the new year.”

Depart from Denver to El Paso, from Dallas to New Orleans, from Las Vegas to San Diego, and more starting at only $49 one-way. Journeys between Hawaiian islands are also available from just $49 each way, including routes from Honolulu, Maui, and Kona.

Customers who take advantage of the promotional offer must secure their tickets at least 21 days prior to departure. Air travel within the contiguous United States and inter-island travel in Hawaii is available from January 28 through May 7, while international flights, mainland routes to and from Hawaii, as well as travel to and from Puerto Rico, are applicable from January 28 through May 22. Blackout periods are dependent on the specific location.

Besides the discounted flights, Southwest is offering double Rapid Rewards points on cruises when reservations are made by January 31; providing up to 3,000 additional Rapid Rewards points on hotel reservations made by January 13 and requiring a minimum stay of 3 nights; offering discounts of up to $500 on holiday packages booked by February 10; and giving up to 30 percent off Budget rental vehicles along with extra Rapid Rewards points for qualifying bookings until January 13 for rentals scheduled through February 28.

The promotion from Southwest comes as the airline gears up to transition to assigned seating, thus ending its long-held open seating policy. The airline anticipates commencing the sale of flights with seat assignments in the latter half of 2025 for travel in the early half of 2026.

Fares offered by Southwest include two complimentary checked bags, no fees for changes, and flight credits that do not expire.
