CENTRALIA — Numerous families ventured to the hills on Sunday and Monday, following a winter storm that blanketed the area with snow beginning early Sunday morning. Children along with their guardians congregated on Stover’s Hill in Centralia to revel in a rare winter experience.
On Sunday, a combination of sleet and more than six inches of snowfall created slick, powdery terrain, ideal for winter sports, particularly sledding. Many kids seized the opportunity to enjoy this winter occasion during the last days of their winter break, which had been prolonged a couple of additional days due to road conditions.
The Griffen family, who arose early on Monday to head to Stover’s Hill alone, mentioned they chose to get up early to enjoy quality sledding time.
Jayda Miller expressed their desire to avoid the throng.
“The kids are having a blast in the snow,” Miller stated. “I suggested, why don’t we head down there early before the crowd, so that we could have the hill all to ourselves? You never know when the weather will allow us this chance again, plus we’re uncertain if school will be in session tomorrow, so we might as well make the most of it.”
And indeed, the family achieved that goal, wrapping up their fun just after 10 a.m.
