ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 25-ranked University of Michigan women’s basketball squad (10-4, 1-2 Big Ten) is set to return home to Crisler after nearly a month, hosting No. 9-ranked Ohio State (14-0, 3-0 Big Ten) on Wednesday evening (Jan. 8) at 7 p.m.

• Michigan comes back to Crisler Center for the first time since Dec. 14, having played four consecutive games away from Ann Arbor.  

• No. 9 Ohio State represents the fifth top-10 contender for Michigan this season. U-M has faced the top-ranked team twice (No. 1 South Carolina, No. 1 UCLA) being the only team nationally to compete against both elite squads. Michigan’s NET strength of schedule ranks 17, placing third among Big Ten teams.

• This is the singular matchup between Michigan and Ohio State this season, following a split in the series last year, with each team claiming victory on their home turf. Michigan dominated the season series against Ohio State during the 2021-22 season, with the Buckeyes reciprocating in the 2022-23 season. Eight of Michigan’s 17 victories over OSU in program history have occurred under head coach Kim Barnes Arico.

• Michigan is in the midst of confronting three consecutive top-10 conference adversaries in No. 4 USC, No. 1 UCLA, and No. 9 Ohio State. Four of Michigan’s past five contests have been against top-10 opponents after facing then-No. 10 Oklahoma at the Jumpman Invitational (Dec. 17).

• The game will showcase four of the Big Ten’s premier scoring freshmen in Syla Swords (16.4 ppg), Olivia Olson (15.4 ppg), Ohio State’s Jaloni Cambridge (13.4 ppg), and Mila Holloway (10.2 ppg). There are seven freshmen in the Big Ten averaging double figures in scoring.

• The Wolverines are eager for their first ranked victory of the season. U-M currently holds a 0-4 record against ranked teams this year, with all previous opponents being in the top 10. Michigan has amassed nine top-10 triumphs in its program’s history.

• Michigan stands at 7-0 in Crisler this season, averaging 91.4 points per game while conceding only 50.6 points per game. U-M shoots 50.1 percent from the field at home, whilst restricting opponents to a mere 35.2 percent shooting rate.

• U-M leads the conference and ranks 11th nationally in three-point shooting defense, limiting opponents to 24.1 percent accuracy from beyond the arc.

• Michigan maintained its position in the Associated Press poll for the sixth consecutive week, sitting at No. 25.

• Michigan will proceed with Big Ten competition on the road this weekend, traveling to Purdue to take on the Boilers on Saturday (Jan. 11) at 2 p.m.
