Artist Biography

A commercial and editorial photographer located in Ferndale, Michigan, Glenn Triest established Triest Photographic in 1987. With a career that spans more than 40 years, his work primarily centers on portrait photography, capturing the richness and variety of human experiences. His powerful narratives have delved into subjects including mental health, politics, commerce, healthcare, and homelessness, with upwards of 20,000 of Triest’s images published in both national and international media.

Profoundly devoted to his community, Triest is a member of various nonprofit boards in Detroit and has founded Imprint Press, a nonprofit project that produces materials for fundraising efforts within charitable organizations. Additionally, he serves as the president of the Coville Photographic Art Foundation and has been a proactive member of the College for Creative Studies Alumni Council since 2009.

Initially starting as a street photographer, he refined his abilities in perception and empathy while documenting life in the streets of Detroit. This early experience ignited a lifelong admiration for the city’s scenery and the vibrant narratives of its inhabitants. Currently, he continues to engage in personal artistic projects and professional commissions. In recent years, Triest has broadened his creative endeavors to incorporate metalworking, designing pieces that contrast the organic beauty of Detroit with its industrial essence.
