HONOLULU–The women’s tennis squad from the University of Hawai’i commenced the prestigious Weinman Foundation Invitational on Wednesday, competing against the reigning NCAA champions and No. 2-ranked Texas A&M as well as No. 17 Southern California at the UH Tennis Complex.

In doubles play, the UH tandem of Ana Vilcek and Nikola Homolkova put up a valiant effort, yet succumbed to a break, losing to Texas A&M’s Lexington Reed and Lucciana Perez, 7-5, while UH’s Joelle Lanz and Emma Forgac fought hard but fell short against USC’s Maia Sung and Parker Fry, 6-3.

During singles, UH’s Emma Forgac managed to equalize her match against USC’s Simone Kay, taking the second set by a break to trigger a deciding third. However, Kay secured the last three games in the third set to clinch the match, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. UH’s Peppi Ramstedt put forth a challenge but ultimately lost to Texas A&M’s No. 102-ranked Daria Smetannikov, 6-4, 6-3. Hawai’i’s Allaire Berl started strong against the Aggies’ Lizanne Boyer but eventually faltered in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.

The Rainbow Wahine will continue the four-day Weinman Foundation Invitational on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. HT at the UH Tennis Complex.
