“Testing the Curves: My Experience with LG’s Innovative 5K2K Bendable Gaming Monitor at CES 2025”

LG has consistently attracted attention at CES with their newest televisions and displays. Last year, they captivated audiences with their transparent TV screens. (The transparent TVs are making a return this year as well, by the way).

This year, LG established itself as the leader of CES by presenting so many innovations that they didn’t even showcase one of their newly highly-anticipated products, the LG UltraGear GX9 series bendable OLED gaming monitor, on the public show floor.

The LG 45GX990A, renowned as the first 5K2K bendable gaming monitor globally, has already won three Innovation Awards at CES 2025. Mashable got a preview from LG at CES, and we had the opportunity to bend the bendable screen ourselves.

To start, just like a standard computer monitor, it’s enormous at 45″ with OLED technology and a 5K2K resolution, featuring a 21:9 aspect ratio for outstanding image quality. The display also includes LG’s Dual Mode, allowing users to seamlessly switch between aspect ratios and screen sizes at the push of a button.

However, LG wasn’t finished with the 45GX990A, as this is the model that bends. Here’s the part you were eagerly anticipating.

This LG UltraGear GX9 model bends automatically, transforming the monitor from a flat display to a curved one and back again, all with just the press of a button, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.

During the demonstration, LG had two large red buttons on the table that facilitated the bending of the screen back and forth. However, the version consumers will purchase will come with a remote control, enabling users to bend the screen with a simple push.

With just a push of a button, the flat-screen LG monitor bent and transformed into an 800R curved display. The contrast was striking in person. LG also had a flat screen and curved monitor displayed next to the bendable model during the demonstration, which effectively highlighted the transformations as the bendable screen showcased its capabilities.

It’s essential to note that a curved monitor may not be suitable for all users, as it is primarily designed to provide gamers with a more immersive experience. This LG monitor caters to a specific audience that may desire both a flat and curved display for varying functions or simply can’t choose between the two.

It is evident that the product is not entirely ready, as the company didn’t even possess the remote at the event. Nevertheless, it was presented alongside the company’s other imminent consumer products, indicating that this is certainly not some distant prototype. However, LG currently does not have any release date or price information available for the bendable gaming monitor.
