The studio Splash Damage has revealed that the online cooperative title Transformers: Reactivate has been terminated just a little over two years following its initial announcement. In addition to the game’s cancellation, the studio will also lay off an undisclosed number of developers.

The announcement was made in a social media post on Wednesday, where the studio indicated that they will be “redirecting” their focus to other projects.

“Today, we must share some very challenging news; the choice has been made to cease development on Transformers: Reactivate,” the statement conveys. “This implies that we will be diminishing our scale to redirect our resources to other projects. Regrettably, despite all our attempts, several positions across the studio are now in potential jeopardy of redundancy.”

The statement further elaborates that the “decision was not made lightly,” and that it’s a “challenging” moment for everyone involved at the studio. They also expressed gratitude to Hasbro for their assistance before discussing the immediate future.

“While not being able to bring the game to fruition is distressing, bidding farewell to friends and teammates is even more painful,” they remarked. “We are now concentrated on doing everything we can to support them through this difficult time, just as we are devoted to looking after those who will remain with us as we build a more resilient Splash Damage for the future.”

Insider Gaming has reached out to Splash Damage for clarification on the number of positions that will be affected by the layoffs. If a reply is received, this article will be updated accordingly.

Last year saw almost 15,000 documented jobs lost within the gaming sector. In just the first eight days of 2025, there have already been at least four known layoffs, including those at Rocksteady and Netmarble F&C.
