The champions of the 2024 European Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition have been revealed. Initiated in 2001, this contest is regarded as one of the most esteemed in contemporary nature photography. This year, it received entries from photographers hailing from 38 nations, amassing a total of 18,000 submitted images.

Managed by the GDT (Gesellschaft für Naturfotografie), the contest showcases finalists in nine categories: Birds, Mammals, Other Animals, Plants & Fungi, Landscapes, The Underwater World, Man and Nature, Nature’s Studio, and two Young Photographer categories (ages up to 14 years and 15–17 years). Additionally, there are two special categories: the Fritz Pölking Prize and Junior Prize, along with the Rewilding Europe Award.

The 2024 Overall Winner—and consequently the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2024—is Spanish photographer Jaime Rojo, recognized for his stunning shot titled “In the Forest of the Monarchs.” Bored Panda had the honor of interviewing the grand prize laureate, along with another finalist, Kjell Vikestad, a Norwegian artist whose playful photo of a great tit charmed our community.
