Diving Into the Future: Men’s and Women’s Swimming Kick Off 2025 Season at Division I Niagara!

SWIMMING MEET PREVIEW

DATE/TIME: Saturday, Jan. 11 | 1 p.m.
LOCATION: Oxy Aquatic Center  | Niagara University, NY

Following a lengthy hiatus from competition, Coach Milan Medo‘s men’s and women’s swimming squads are poised to return to the water for a match against the Purple Eagles. The competition will occur at the Oxy Aquatic Center in Niagara on Saturday, January 11, commencing at 1:00 PM.

 

The Gannon University swim teams will launch their 2025 timetable as they gear up for the PSAC Championships, scheduled from February 17 to 20 in York, Pennsylvania. Both Golden Knight teams recently attained first place at the Malone Invitational in November.

 

Recap – Malone Invitational – Nov. 21-23

Women

• The Golden Knights amassed 1,640 points to clinch victory in the three-day event. 
• Sophomore Emily Hedges (Peachtree Corners, Ga./St Pius X Catholic) established a school record in the 200-meter fly with a time of 2:05.52, surpassing her previous best of 2:06.01 achieved at the 2024 PSAC Championships.

 
The Golden Knights approach Saturday’s dual with a record of 2-1 and are currently on a two-meet winning streak after suffering a loss in the season opener against Clarion (160.5-76.5). Gannon secured its first victory of the season on October 25 against RIT, finishing with a score of 156-138. They continued this with a second dual triumph against IUP on November 9, winning 142-119.
 
Men

• Gannon excelled in the three-day event, accumulating 1,738 points out of 16 teams.

 
Gannon enters Saturday with a 1-2 record. The Golden Knights achieved their first season win against PSAC opponent IUP, breaking three pool records and attaining ten first-place finishes. Following a strong performance at the Malone Invitational, Head Coach Milan Medo‘s team aims to secure their second dual win of the season.
 
About the Purple Eagles
Women

• Arrives for Saturday’s competition with a 5-0 record. 
• Secured victories against St. Bonaventure (147-133), Cleveland State (120-85), Youngstown State (186-72), Saint Francis (161-82), and Stonehill (178-76). 
• Placed 8th out of 10 teams in Cleveland State’s Magnus Cup.

Men

• Arrives for Saturday’s meet with a record of 1-2
•  Secured a win over Youngstown State, defeating them 154-108. 
• Placed 5th out of six teams in Cleveland State’s Magnus Cup.

 
 
Looking Ahead
The Golden Knights will return to the pool on Saturday, January 18, when they face Oberlin and Malone. The tri-meet will kick off at 1:00 p.m. at Carr Pool in Oberlin, Ohio.
