Iowa State vs. UNI: The Ultimate Showdown Preview!

The Iowa State Cyclones (2-2, 0-0 Big 12) will host the UNI Panthers (0-1, 0-0 MVC) on Saturday during their senior day festivities at Beyer Hall in Ames.

THE OPPONENT – UNI

The Cyclones are preparing for an intra-state rivalry as they compete against the Panthers.

In a prior matchup, both teams participated in the Hawkeye Invite in Iowa City last November, where the Cyclones placed eighth, just ahead of UNI in ninth.

So far, UNI has taken part in just one dual meet, facing the Hawkeyes and suffering a defeat of 173-127.

LAST TIME OUT – Iowa

The Cyclones encountered a formidable opponent in a strong Iowa team, leading to their second defeat of the season.

Anja Peck and Winter Craig were standout athletes for the Cyclones during the swimming events. Peck clinched second place in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, achieving a personal best in the 200 and securing the fourth position on ISU’s all-time freshman record list. Her performance earned her the title of Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.

Craig maintained her composure in the butterfly, finishing first in the 200 fly and placing third in the 100 fly.

Mallory Miller registered her name on the All-Time Top Performer’s roster in the 400 IM, setting a personal best with a time of 4:21.00, which granted her a sixth-place rank on the list along with a second-place finish.

In diving, freshman Maggie Bendell qualified for the NCAA Zone Qualifiers for the first time this season in the 1-meter event, securing fourth place with a score of 266.05. She narrowly missed the qualification in the 3-meter event, finishing third with a score of 279.15.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR – Breaststroke

The Cyclones have exhibited remarkable prowess in breaststroke events. In their competition against Iowa, they thoroughly dominated both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, achieving all top five positions in each race.

ON DECK – TCU

Iowa State is set to travel to Fort Worth, Texas, where they will contend with the Horned Frogs in their initial Big 12 match of the season on January 17th at 5 p.m.
