RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Rutherford County Jeep Crew has commenced preparations for their inaugural year of providing rides in the snow to essential personnel.

Inspired by Sumner County’s Jeep Crew, who began this initiative a decade ago, Jeep enthusiast Candice Kio, a former ER nurse for two decades, recalls the anxiety of commuting during inclement weather.

“It’s something you can hardly envision,” Kio expressed. “You’re so worried about the job you actually perform, and then there’s the question of whether you’ll arrive at work. Will you face repercussions? All those concerns.”

Since then, her snow days have transformed into more enjoyable experiences. Kio is among many in the Jeep community preparing to head out on Friday and utilize their passion for a good cause.

“Drivers are having a great time, so that’s sufficient for us,” Kio stated. “We’re out having fun while providing rides to workers, making it enjoyable for everyone.”

Rutherford County’s Jeep Crew is just one of various Jeep communities offering transportation to essential workers. Ryan Rigney was motivated to launch similar initiatives in his local area.

“We recognize that no matter the circumstances, medical staff must be at work. They need to be present,” Rigney asserted. “They’re responsible for the care of those in need, just like veterinary clinics. We have individuals who need to care for animals too.”

At the time of publication, the group is seeking drivers to assist in providing rides on Friday. They are also looking for anyone willing to help organize rides from home and guide drivers appropriately. For assistance or if you require a ride, you can connect with the group’s Facebook page.
