COACH’S QUOTE
“I felt we held our sticks a bit too tightly in the first,” remarked Head Coach Steve Wiedler. “The first goal was a blind puck from behind the net. The second was a penalty 200 feet from our goal, followed by us clearing the puck into our own zone. Self-inflicted damages and penalties are a poor strategy against BU.”
HOW IT UNFOLDED
- Ryan Greene initiated the scoring for the Terriers 7:05 into the first period with a fortunate bounce. Greene won a puck duel behind the net, and his centering pass deflected off UVM’s Axel Mangbo and slipped in to put it at 1-0.
- The Catamounts sought to level the score. Within the next 45 seconds, Boston University’s Mathieu Caron made four crucial stops, two against Simon Jellus and two against Isak Walther to keep it at zero.
- The 2025 World Juniors leading scorer Cole Hutson found the net twice in the first period to widen the BU lead to 3-0. At the 10:11 mark of the first period, he scored shortly after a UVM penalty expired and then netted a power play goal with just 40 seconds remaining in the opening period.
- Jack Harvey scored just 26 seconds into the second period, pushing the Boston University lead to four.
- Immediately after Harvey’s goal, Caron halted UVM’s top scorer Colin Kessler on a breakaway.
- Devin Kaplan raised the score to 5-0 with 4:28 left in the second period, registering his fifth goal of the season.
- Axel Mangbo made 18 saves through 40 minutes for Vermont, while Connor MacKenzie made his second appearance of the season, stopping four shots in the third period for UVM.
- Jack Hughes netted a power play goal 1:21 into the third period, capping the scoring for the Terriers.
- Jax Wismer got the Catamounts on the scoreboard with his second goal of the season 7:49 into the final period. From the corner, Will Zapernick passed it out to Wismer at the point, and he defeated Caron with a precisely placed wrist shot. Massimo Lombardi received the secondary assist on the play.
