CORVALLIS, Ore. – The ninth-ranked Oregon State Gymnastics team competed at Gill Coliseum for the first time in 2025 on Saturday, recording a score of 196.400 to triumph over the No. 22 BYU Cougars.

Jade Carey dominated the event title competition with four scores exceeding 9.900, further enhancing her remarkable collegiate career. The Phoenix native commenced Saturday’s competition with a 9.900 on vault, followed by a 9.950 on bars and a 9.925 on beam, concluding with another 9.950 on floor, achieving a total of 39.725 in the all-around.

This performance marked her 17th instance of scoring 39.725 or better, yet it was only the 18th occasion in program history that a Beaver gymnast has reached this milestone. With scoring 9.900 or higher on all four apparatuses, Carey has now attained at least 9.900 in seven of her eight routines this season, the sole exception being a 9.875 on vault last week.

Sophia Esposito, the current Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, participated in three events and built upon her performance from the previous week when the Melville, N.Y. native only appeared on beam. After earning a score of 9.775 on her vault, Esposito initiated the beam lineup with an impressive 9.850 and concluded her competition with another 9.850 during OSU’s final rotation on floor.

The Beaver floor lineup achieved the highest rotation score of any apparatus for either team, combining for a score of 49.250; all five scores contributed were 9.800 or higher. Savannah Miller kicked off the rotation with a 9.850 followed by two scores of 9.800 from Karlie Chavez and Sage Thompson, before Esposito’s 9.850 and Carey’s 9.950 completed the rotation.

Thompson had another impressive performance for Oregon State on Saturday, participating in three events. The Lehi, Utah, native scored 9.750 on vault followed by earning 9.800 on both bars and floor.

One week after leading the team in scoring, the Beaver beam lineup remained unchanged and once again delivered a strong performance with a rotation score of 49.200. Esposito gained momentum with her 9.850, followed by Olivia Buckner earning 9.800 and Lauren Letzsch enhancing her previous week’s score of 9.825 with a 9.850; Sydney Gonzales received a 9.775 prior to Carey’s 9.950.

Attendance for Saturday’s event was recorded at 6,551 fans, ranking it as the 11th most attended gymnastics meet in Oregon State history, surpassing any meet since the program record of 8,859 was established against Utah on March 11, 2023.
