PRINCETON, N.J. — Contesting against two NCAA Division I rivals, the Kenyon College women’s swimming and diving squad came close to achieving a split in a double-dual held over Friday and Saturday. The Owls, however, were defeated by host Princeton University, 241-112, and narrowly lost to the U.S. Naval Academy, 178-175.
The Owls secured nine finishes within the top three across events, yet the standout moment of the two-day, three-team competition occurred on Friday night, when Kenyon senior Jennah Fadely triumphed in the 100-yard breaststroke with an NCAA Division III record time of 59.62. This performance surpassed the former record of 59.77 established by Denison University’s KT Kustritz during the 2018 season. Moreover, Fadely broke her own Kenyon record of 59.80 set in the previous season.
Fadely also contributed another event victory for Kenyon on Saturday, clinching first place in the 200-yard breaststroke. Her winning time of 2:11.53 marked a seasonal best and exceeded the NCAA ‘B’ cut for this event. Classmate Gabrielle Wei followed closely in second with a time of 2:12.21, which was also her season best and met NCAA ‘B’ qualification.
On Friday, Wei also achieved second place behind Fadely in the 100-yard breaststroke, recording a time of 1:01.05, another personal best and qualifying for the ‘B’ cut.
Other second-place results for the Owls on Friday came from relay events. The team consisting of Gwen Eisenbeis, Kate Bogan, Fadely, and Sydney Geboy began the meet with a time of 1:33.10 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Later, Geboy and Wei teamed up with Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault and Celia Ford to achieve second place with a time of 3:44.20 in the 400-yard medley relay.
In the relay events on Saturday, Kenyon recorded another second-place finish, this time in the 200-yard medley relay, where Eisenbeis, Fadely, Ford, and Torrecillas-Jouault collaborated to complete the race in a season-best 1:41.09.
Throughout the event, the Owls collected third-place finishes from Molly Haag and Nora Lee Brown. Haag achieved her mark with a season-best and NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time of 1:50.14 in the 200-yard freestyle. Brown then secured bronze in the 1,000-yard freestyle, stopping the clock at 10:13.73.
In diving, Olive O’Dorisio and Naomi Kennel emerged as Kenyon’s leading performers. O’Dorisio achieved a score of 201.70 on the one-meter board, finishing in eighth place. On the three-meter board, Kennel garnered a score of 217.15, securing seventh place.
The Owls have a break before their next competition, scheduled for January 31, when they will host the NCAA Division I RedHawks from Miami (OH) University for a Senior Day meet starting at 1 p.m.
