Anne and Phil Medcalf collectively possess more than 45 years of diving expertise and have been capturing digital images underwater for over 30 of those years. They are also long-time supporters of Photo Stage, returning to the GO Diving Show for the sixth consecutive year this March.
In 2017, they transformed their passion into a business and currently operate Alphamarine Photography Ltd, a firm specializing in underwater photography training and retail. Their blog is highly regarded on their website, and they host a Facebook Q&A group with over 2,000 members globally.
They have contributed articles on underwater photography for Scuba Diver magazine and have spoken on this topic at every GO Diving Show since the event’s inception.
Their workshops and online classes draw divers from around the globe. The couple’s retail experience provides them with a more extensive knowledge base compared to many underwater photographers, along with proficiency in utilizing equipment ranging from budget-friendly options to the latest premium gear.
Discovering the Art in Underwater Photography
The subject of Anne and Phil’s presentation at the GO Diving Show on the Photo Stage explores how to get ‘artsy’ with your underwater imagery.
The GO Diving Show
The GO Diving Show – the sole consumer dive and travel event in the UK – is set to return to the NAEC Stoneleigh on March 1-2, 2025, perfectly timed to launch the new season, and promises a weekend brimming with interactive, educational, inspiring, and entertaining content.
In addition to the Main Stage – which will this year be headlined by TV personality, author, and adventurer Steve Backshall, marking his return to the GO Diving Show after several years, alongside NASA-trained NEEMO Aquanaut and Head of Scientific Research at DEEP Dawn Kernagis, fellow TV presenter, author and perennial favorite Monty Halls, and the vibrant explorer duo Rannva Joermundsson and Maria Bollerup, sharing insights about their recent Expedition Buteng in Indonesia – dedicated stages will again highlight UK diving, technical diving, underwater photography, and inspiring narratives.
Alongside these stages, various interactive features are planned – the always-popular Cave, a massive try-dive pool, an immersive virtual reality tech-wreck dive, breath-hold workshops, lining-out drills, and, new for 2025, an opportunity to practice wreck mapping with the Nautical Archaeology Society and their ‘shipwreck’ – all among an ever-expanding array of booths from tourist boards, manufacturers, training agencies, resorts, liveaboards, dive centers, retailers, and more.
This year will also highlight the NoTanx Zero2Hero competition, taking center stage. Aimed at beginner freedivers, this contest will see the initial 12 entrants receive training with Marcus Greatwood and the NoTanx team in London in late-February. Subsequently, five finalists will compete at the GO Diving Show during the March weekend, including static apnea sessions in the pool, to determine the overall champion, who will win a week-long trip to Marsa Shagra Eco-Village, courtesy of Oonasdivers.
