A 39-year-old individual has received a 20-year prison sentence after being found guilty of sexual exploitation crimes against young girls.

Dominic Scribbins, based in Plymouth, was sentenced today (Monday, 13 January) at Bristol Crown Court after a jury convicted him of 16 offences during a seven-day trial that concluded on Friday, 29 November. The charges included:

  • Eight counts of indecent assault
  • Three counts of sexual offenses against a child under 13
  • Two counts of penetration assault against a child under 13
  • And one count each of penetration assault, sexual assault, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

The court was informed that from 2003 to 2019, Scribbins had sexually and indecently assaulted numerous young girls in the Bristol and Dorset regions, aged between four and 14 years old during the incidents.

During today’s sentencing, justice was served for Scribbins’ victims as he received 18 years in prison, plus an additional two years on extended license. He was also issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be registered as a sexual offender for life.

This sentence comes after a four-year investigation that began in 2020 when one of his victims reported a series of historical sexual assaults carried out by Scribbins.

In the wake of this, additional victims also came forward with their statements. After a thorough investigation, Scribbins was apprehended in 2021, with charges filed against him in May of the previous year.

In a personal account, one victim stated: “It is still on my mind to this day. I recall it as if it were yesterday. It is challenging to move past what happened to me, and I now constantly worry about the possibility of it occurring again.

“Even though I understand he won’t be near me, I still find myself looking around for him. I have no idea where he is, and I’m always cautious – he could be anywhere.”

Another victim expressed: “Scribbins’ actions have deeply impacted my life in ways that few can truly comprehend. Since he perpetrated these crimes, I have struggled to come to terms with it. It created a ripple effect in my life that I know will never fade.

“I was just an innocent child when my childhood was stolen from me.

“What Scribbins did has shaped the person I am today, but not positively. In fact, it has distorted how I live and perceive the world, often leaving me feeling despondent.

“I must carry the trauma and consequences of Scribbins’ behaviors for the remainder of my life, and there is nothing that can change that. However, I can ensure that from this moment forward, no one else has to endure the abuse I experienced because of him, which makes all of this feel worthwhile.”

Case officer, Detective Sergeant Lucy Bryant, stated: “The victims have displayed remarkable bravery and strength throughout the past four years since they came forward, and today their courage is recognized as a very dangerous individual is incarcerated for a significant period.

“No child should have to suffer the anguish that Scribbins inflicted upon his victims. Children and other vulnerable groups in our society should be able to grow, thrive, and lead their lives without fear of sexual predators like Scribbins.

“He acted selfishly, pursuing his personal desires with little remorse or concern for those he affected, bringing only pain and anguish to his victims. His actions are despicable, and to prolong the court process by denying his wrongdoings is cowardly.

“I hope that other victims understand that regardless of when the abuse occurred, if you have experienced something similar, please report it to us; you will receive support.”
