“Capturing Moments: Emeritus Lecturer Rob Tolley Unveils Stunning Photography Exhibit at IU East”

“Presence,” a wildlife photography showcase, will be exhibited in Meijer Artway in Whitewater Hall, located on the campus of Indiana University East, from January 6 through February 2.

The images are captured in the Upper Green River Valley in Wyoming by Rob Tolley, emeritus senior lecturer in Anthropology.

Over his 35 years at IU East, Tolley engaged in archaeological research and fieldwork across North America, frequently involving students in his fieldwork.

In 2014, Tolley and his spouse Nancy relocated to their retirement residence in the Upper Green River Valley, where they live throughout the year. They find themselves immersed in nature and national forest land, including Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park.

Tolley utilized his photographs to convey their experiences to family and friends but has discovered that his work is frequently utilized by non-profit organizations in their publications and social media platforms.

In his artistic statement for the showcase, Tolley expressed, “In putting together this exhibit, I acknowledged the limitation of our immediate habitat. This area encompasses our home and nearby locations where we can hike and ski. I capture what we observe in our everyday lives. All birds and creatures seem to have welcomed us into their environment. We inhabit this space, quietly, and observe. This motif of ‘Presence’ enables me to photograph recurring scenes of our home valley.”
