TROY, Ala. – Following their victory over Toledo in the opening match of the MAC-SBC Challenge to kick off their season at Trojan Arena, the Troy men’s basketball squad is set to journey to Oxford, Ohio, to face Miami (Ohio) in the second game of the challenge on Feb. 8.
 
Troy (10-6, 3-2 SBC) has begun Sun Belt competition strongly and is currently tied for second place in the conference. Miami (11-4, 3-0 MAC) is riding a five-game winning streak. The Trojans are ranked 131 in the NET Rankings, while the RedHawks sit at 140.
 
In their initial game of the challenge this season, Troy emerged victorious against Toledo with a score of 84-74. The Trojans had four players achieving double-digit scores and recorded a shooting percentage of 52.2 from the field. Miami commenced their season by overcoming App State 77-63 in Boone.
 
The Trojans have benefited from outstanding performances this year from senior guard Tayton Conerway, who is contributing a team-leading average of 12.2 points per match. He achieved a career-best of 32 points in Saturday’s game against Arkansas State. He is averaging 19.2 points across Troy’s five conference encounters.
 
The RedHawks were picked to finish sixth in the MAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
 
This marks the third encounter between the two teams and the first since 2011, when Troy secured a 73-60 victory at home.
 
The MAC-SBC Challenge was established based on recommendations from the Sun Belt’s strategic planning committees for both men’s and women’s basketball. Scheduling support is provided by Ordinal Sports Group. Matchups are determined considering pertinent NET data, geography, and the frequency of previous contests.
