As a Gameplay Engineer at Amazon Games, you will be pivotal in designing immersive and groundbreaking gaming experiences. In this role, you will utilize your extensive programming skills and game development expertise to realize creative ideas. You will operate at the crossroads of technology and design, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to create engaging gameplay mechanics and systems. Your tasks will encompass the entire development lifecycle, from prototyping fresh ideas to enhancing performance across various platforms. You will play a key role in developing fundamental gameplay features, implementing advanced AI behaviors, and refining combat systems and player controls. Your efforts will significantly influence the player experience, ensuring fluid and captivating gameplay on different hardware setups.

Key job responsibilities
• Development and execution of fundamental gameplay mechanics and features in cooperation with designers
• Development and execution of prototypes and AI behaviors
• Creation and refinement of combat systems, player controls, and game physics
• Integration of gameplay systems with backend services and game engines
• Collaboration with artists, animators, and UI teams to deploy visual effects, character animations, and user-friendly player interfaces
• Ensure seamless gameplay experiences across various hardware configurations
• Writing efficient code, resolving intricate gameplay issues, and conducting code reviews
• Mentoring junior developers and offering technical support
• Documenting code and features.
• Collaborate with the team to enhance production workflows and enforce best practices.

About the team
At Amazon Games, our goal is to create bold new experiences that cultivate community in and around our games. Our cohort of game industry professionals is engaged in developing and publishing live service AAA multiplayer games and creating original intellectual properties, including New World: Aeternum and an upcoming title inspired by The Lord of the Rings, with our studios and teams situated in Seattle, Orange County, San Diego, Montreal, and Bucharest. Amazon Games also publishes top-tier games in close collaboration with developers, leading with Lost Ark from Smilegate RPG, THRONE AND LIBERTY from NCSOFT, and King of Meat from Glowmade, as well as the next significant installment in the Tomb Raider series from Crystal Dynamics.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

– Non-internship professional software development experience
– Extensive non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
– Proficiency in C++ and familiarity with game engines (Unreal, Unity, or proprietary)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

– Experience in the Games Industry (supporting title Development, Release, or Live Ops)
– Experience with Unity, Unreal, CryEngine, Lumberyard, or proprietary 3D game engines, or equivalent industry technology (3D animation, simulation, etc)
– Programming experience in at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
– Complete software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
