Join us at the Fine Art Gallery located in the Old Bakery & Emporium on Saturday, January 18th for the inaugural reception of “Wildlife Amidst the Wildflowers”. Encounter striking photographs of insects and animals residing among the wildflowers, captured by local Austin “photonaturalists”.
Additional details regarding the Exhibit and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project:
Situated here in Austin, TX, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center serves as Texas’ official botanical garden and draws in visitors throughout the year. While the wildflowers are the center’s main draw, gardens represent more than mere collections of plants; they embody ecosystems. Though the flora at the Wildflower Center has seen extensive study and documentation, the fauna residing there had not received equal notice until March 2010, when Valerie Bugh initiated the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fauna Project to gather information about the non-human inhabitants (and visitors) of the Gardens.
Led by Valerie Bugh and a team of passionate volunteers, the Wildflower Center Fauna Project is now celebrating 15 years. Each Thursday morning, photographers and entomologists convene at the Wildflower Center to document and capture images of the wildlife they encounter. One of the advantages of these surveys is to aid the visiting public in understanding more about the ecology of gardens. Several notable “photonaturalists” consistently contribute to the Fauna Project, and this exhibit highlights some of their contributions and the wildlife that inhabits the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
