Huskies Head East: A Showdown in St. John’s Awaits!

STORRS, Conn. – The sixth-seeded UConn women’s basketball squad (915-2, 6-0 BIG EAST) faces off against St. John’s (11-5, 1-4) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Carnesecca Arena. The matchup will be broadcast on SNY and the UConn Sports Network through Learfield (FOX Sports 97-9).

Graduate student Azzi Fudd contributed 21 points and made five three-pointers to propel UConn past Georgetown, securing a 73-55 victory last Saturday in Washington, D.C. Fudd tallied 12 points in the second half and finished 4-6 from beyond the arc. Freshman Sarah Strong achieved 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

Strong received the title of BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday for the sixth occasion this season. In two victories last week, Strong averaged 15.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 4.0 steals per game.

The Huskies hold a historical record of 49-18 against St. John’s. This will be UConn’s first contest in Carnesecca Arena since the 2021-22 season.

St. John’s comes off a 60-39 triumph over Xavier last Saturday. This season, Lashae Dwyer is the leading scorer for the Red Storm, averaging 14.7 points per game. Head coach Joe Tartamella is currently in his 13th year at St. John’s.

The Huskies will return to Gampel Pavilion this Sunday for the first time since December 3 to take on Seton Hall. Limited tickets are still available HERE.
