LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas swimming and diving star Shiyun Lai continues her impressive dominance in her second year, receiving her third Big 12 Women’s Diver of the Week accolade this season, as declared by the conference on Wednesday.
A resident of Guangdong Province, China, Lai has shown exceptional skill on the diving boards. She earned the award following an outstanding performance against Houston on Jan. 11, winning both diving competitions with authority. Lai tallied 296.93 points to place first in the 1m event, and she followed that up with a remarkable 331.65-point result in the 3m event, securing yet another victory and completing the sweep.
This recent recognition adds to Lai’s program-record total of six career Big 12 weekly honors.
In the 2023-24 season, Lai has firmly established herself as one of the elite divers in the Big 12. She received an Honorable Mention All-American title and was named a CSCAA Second Team All-American while also gaining CSCAA Scholar All-American distinctions. Furthermore, she was a unanimous All-Big 12 First Team pick and was honored as the Big 12 Women’s Newcomer Diver of the Meet in the previous year.
