AMD’s sought-after new Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU is available once again at Amazon and Best Buy. Launched in November, the 9800X3D has received broad acclaim and is often referred to as the leading gaming CPU on the market by numerous reviewers. It’s not surprising that the high-performance processor has been difficult to find in stock. The 9800X3D has maintained bestseller status since its launch in November, and AMD’s announcement of its new 9070-series graphics cards at CES 2025 has made the CPU even harder to acquire.

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is among the latest in the expanding family of 3D V-Cache CPUs, with each being a vital component of an enthusiast-gaming PC. It was the first to utilize AMD’s 2nd-generation 3D V-Cache technology, with AMD asserting that the 9800X3D is, on average, 8% quicker than the previous generation’s 7800X3D, which was similarly regarded as the top gaming CPU available.

The 9800X3D has a base clock frequency of 4.7GHz, with an increase to 5.2GHz and a TDP of 120W. It was the inaugural X3D chip to feature overclocking, enabling enthusiasts to extract even more performance from the silicon through effective adjustments. The processing cores were reengineered using AMD’s Zen 5 framework. Besides excellent gaming capabilities, the 8-core, 16-thread CPU presents a significant enhancement in productivity performance.

The 9800X3D currently stands as AMD’s fastest gaming CPU, yet it will soon be accompanied by another AMD processor. In March, AMD is set to unveil the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D processors. Pricing details have not yet been disclosed, but AMD mentions that the gaming performance for the 9950X3D benchmarks within 1% of the 9800X3D. The new Ryzen 9 processors aim to serve as superior all-around options for productivity and creative tasks.
