2024 Total Establishes New High for ARC-Accredited Agency Sales

ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC) unveiled statistics indicating that air ticket sales from U.S.-based travel agencies in 2024 amounted to $99.2 billion. The sales in 2024 increased by 4% compared to 2023 and signify the highest yearly total noted by ARC.

During December, U.S. travel agencies experienced a spike in demand, with ticket sales reaching $6.7 billion, reflecting a 17% rise year-over-year. The total number of passenger trips went up by 13% compared to the previous year, spurred by gains in both domestic and international travel trips.*

NDC transactions constituted 20.3% of the total transactions reported and settled by ARC in December 2024 — up 10% from 18.4% in December 2023. A total of 799 travel agencies recorded NDC transactions in December 2024.

“2024 was a significant year for air travel, featuring eight months of unprecedented agency sales and a robust conclusion in December,” stated Steve Solomon, chief commercial officer at ARC. “The growth in sales and passenger trips was facilitated by industry cooperation to cater to travelers and travel managers in their desired business environments. Airlines, agencies, and tech providers collectively worked hard to bolster modern airline retailing in 2024, as shown by the substantial increase of over 50% in total NDC transaction volume since 2023.”
