LITTLE ROCK – The Little Rock Trojans swimming and diving squad is set to host their concluding home event of the season this Saturday, honoring Senior Day. They will recognize nine team members as they face off against Southern Illinois and Henderson State in a tri-meet to commence the Spring season.
“Senior Meet is always a unique occasion as we celebrate 9 seniors and their contributions to the swimming and diving program. We organized a special senior week for them and are eager for our first meet of 2025 following an intense winter training period. Southern Illinois features two of the top swimmers in our conference and Henderson State harbors one of the finest female sprinters, so we anticipate competitive races on Friday. I truly appreciate how this group consistently meets challenges head-on, no matter the circumstances. I cannot wait to see how we perform!” – Head Coach Nathan Townsend.
The 1-meter board will initiate events at 12 p.m. at the Donaghey Aquatic Center, with swimming events starting at 1 p.m. and the Senior Ceremony scheduled for 12:30 p.m. The complete event schedule is available below.
Little Rock will pay tribute to 12 swimmers who have been integral to the program, excelling in academics, performance in the pool, and leadership within the team: Lara Alsader, Kyra Apodaca, Gillian Boggs, Jaelle Carlson, Olivia Henderson, Lucy Jahn, Lauren Pieniazkiewicz, Caitlin Romprey, and Devin Trammell.
This Saturday, the seniors will compete against in-state rivals Henderson State and conference challengers Southern Illinois. Earlier this season, the Trojans achieved a commanding victory over Henderson State with a score of 212-65. Their previous encounter with Southern Illinois took place at the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Championships, where SIU claimed third place, while the Trojans secured sixth. With both teams delivering strong competition, the meet guarantees exhilarating races as each swimmer aims to reach the wall first.
Following a week of rigorous winter training, Friday offers an excellent opportunity for the Trojans to gauge their progress heading into the forthcoming season and prepare for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in February.
