Dive into Action: Teams Prepare for Thrilling Meet Showdowns!

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland Swim and Dive prepare for two competitions this weekend facing Calvin College and an additional contest against Wayne State this season.

This Friday, the Golden Grizzlies are set for a contest at home versus the Calvin Knights. The Golden Grizzlies have an all-time record of two victories and one draw against the Calvin Knights. These three encounters occurred during the initial two seasons of Oakland Swim and Dive’s history. In the Golden Grizzlies’ debut season, 1964-1965, the Men’s Swim and Dive team triumphed over the Knights 55-35 in their first ever clash. During that first season, the Men’s Swim and Dive team became the premier varsity squad in the history of Oakland University Athletics.

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies aim to honor their predecessors with a formidable meet this Friday. Following extensive training, the Golden Grizzlies are excited to return to the pool deck and compete against the Knights. After a remarkable performance at the Zippy Invite, where both the men’s and women’s teams took second place, the Golden Grizzlies are eager for more. The Oakland Swim squads look to Jonas Cantrell, Christopher Palvadre, and Harry Nicholson to spearhead the men’s efforts. For the women’s team, Jordyn Shipps, Rhianna Hensler, and Grace Albrecht delivered outstanding displays at the Zippy Invite, which will be crucial for the Golden Grizzlies’ success this weekend.

After their competition with the Calvin Knights, the Golden Grizzlies will travel down the road to face the Wayne State Warriors. Earlier in the season, the two teams met in a sprint event, where the Golden Grizzlies emerged victorious. In their encounter this Saturday at the Matthaei Natatorium, the Golden Grizzlies will also benefit from the support of the diving teams. Four-time Horizon League Women’s Diver of the Week, Ellie Chalifoux, alongside Victoria Sanders, aims to deliver a strong performance for the Golden Grizzlies. On the men’s side, Edin DeHooghe and Liam James are poised to achieve impressive results this weekend.

As the season nears its conclusion, the Golden Grizzlies seek a strong performance this weekend ahead of their final home series of the season. With the Horizon League Championships approaching, the Golden Grizzlies are finding their rhythm as they head into the concluding phase.
