Rockstar Games Pulls the Plug on GTA 5’s Ambitious Liberty City Revival Project

Last month, the Liberty City Preservation Initiative introduced GTA 4 as a mod for GTA 5, attracting significant attention on social media.

On their Discord server, one of the creators of the project mentioned that they have chosen to discontinue the Liberty City Preservation Initiative.

Discord user nkjellman stated, “Due to the unforeseen popularity our project garnered and after discussions with Rockstar Games, we have made the decision to take down the Liberty City Preservation project. We are grateful for all the support that the project has received and we look forward to continuing our passion for modding the Grand Theft Auto series.”

World Travel, the modding team behind this mod, restored Liberty City in an unparalleled manner and created one of the most precise mods of the original game thus far. This mod featured NPCs, vehicles, sound effects from the original game, and even a fully operational subway system.

There’s a new mod for GTAV called “Liberty City Preservation Project”. I tried the mod, and it’s FANTASTIC! It comes with a functioning subway system, realistic police, and ambient traffic—it’s incredibly polished.

In my opinion, the Liberty City Preservation Project represents the finest effort in the GTA modding community to date. I’m eager to see more from the team in the future!

Regarding the future of the modding team, it remains uncertain, but at the moment, supporters of the mod are understandably irked that Rockstar Games has seemingly influenced its discontinuation. It is likely that the studio requested the removal of the mod prior to any legal measures being implemented.

Reasons for the Shutdown of the Liberty City Project

Players are starting to theorize that this action could imply that Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive might be planning to announce an official game remaster shortly. However, as of this writing, no official announcements have been made.

This isn’t the first occasion in which Rockstar Games has discontinued or threatened legal action against mods, and it likely won’t be the last.
