DIVING

USC’s diving team will commence their activities on Thursday, Jan. 16 at the inaugural Cal Diving Invitational.

Thursday will include women’s 3-meter and men’s 1-meter events, alongside both team competitions. Friday will showcase the women’s 1-meter and men’s 3-meter events. Sunday will highlight platform diving for both genders.

Eight teams are expected to compete in the three-day event. In addition to host Cal, Stanford, UCLA, Denver, Fresno State, BYU, Utah, Hawai’i, and the Trojans will participate. The competition starts at 11 a.m. daily and is structured similarly to NCAA Zone formats. Finals will comprise the top 12 divers in 1-meter and 3-meter events, as well as the top eight on the platform. The scores from the invitation will influence both Cal and Stanford dual meet scores.

SO FAR THIS SEASON:

USC remains undefeated in dual meets for this season. During the home opener in October, the Trojans achieved victories in both ‘dual’ matches at the USC Invitational, securing a win against Hawaii. The Women of Troy claimed first place in all four relays, while Troy won three out of four relays (400y medley relay, 200y free relay, and 200y medley relay). Additionally, USC triumphed in a total of 12 individual events at the invitation.

In early November, the Trojans defeated former Pac-12 competitor Arizona in another home dual. Sophomore All-American and Olympian Minna Abraham recorded the fastest time in the nation (at that stage of the season) in the 200y freestyle, winning the event with a time of 1:42.01, securing an NCAA A-cut.

USC concluded their fall competitions at the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational, where 35 Trojans achieved personal best times. During the event, Abraham took first in the 200y freestyle, and Stanford graduate transfer Luke Maurer produced a noteworthy finish in the 200y IM, finishing third in prelims with a time of 1:42.57, which is a record-worthy performance for the school.
