WILMINGTON, N.Y. – The Vermont skiing team embarks on day two of the St. Lawrence Carnival positioned in fifth place, following the initial day where only the men’s and women’s alpine teams participated in the GS race at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, NY. The UVM women’s alpine team achieved the third highest point total in their contingent event, with three Vermont female skiers finishing within the top 12.

In the women’s alpine GS competition, Linn Hansson Liedholm secured seventh place, marking the best performance for the Catamounts on this day and her top GS race result of the season to date, clocking a total time of 2:16.90 for two runs. Justine Clément followed closely behind in eighth place, with a combined running time of 2:16.92. During her second run, Clément recorded the fastest time between sectors one and two, shaving off nearly eight seconds, which clinched her a position within the top 10 for the GS event, her first top 10 placement of the season. Hanna Larsson Nathhorst finished 11th for Vermont, contributing crucial points for the Catamounts with a total time of 2:17.20 over two runs. Nathhorst’s 11th place finish is her best in the GS thus far this season.
 
On the men’s alpine front, Mackenzie Wood attained the highest placement for UVM, finishing in 12th with a two-run time of 2:11.86, representing his best performance in GS races this season and his second top 20 finish overall.
 
Tomorrow, the St. Lawrence Carnival will persist, with both men’s and women’s alpine concluding their events with the slalom race at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, NY. In the preceding carnival (Bates), UVM’s women’s alpine team secured the most points in the slalom event. The initial slalom run is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Additionally, men’s and women’s Nordic skiing will kick off their first day of the carnival tomorrow, participating in a 20k Freestyle mass start from Lake Placid, NY at Mt Van Hoevenberg, beginning with the women’s race at 10 a.m. and followed by the men’s at 12 p.m.
