Buckeyes Rise to the Challenge: A Fierce Face-Off with Michigan Awaits!

COLUMBUS, Ohio –The No. 11 Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team and No. 13 women’s swimming and diving team are back in action this weekend, traveling to Ann Arbor for a dual competition against rival Michigan at noon on Saturday, Jan. 18.
 
Women’s Meet Highlights

• The Buckeyes boast a record of 5-0 in dual competitions leading into this weekend’s events.
• Ohio State’s last NCAA event was the Ohio State Fall Invitational, where the Buckeyes secured second place with 2,413.5 points.
• Mila Nikanorov has already secured a spot at the NCAA Championships, achieving an NCAA A cut time of 15:49.26 in the 1650 free at the Fall Invite. She set a program benchmark in the 1000 free earlier this season with a time of 9:30.49.
• Four Buckeye relay teams have achieved NCAA automatic qualifying times in the first portion of the season; the 200 free relay team of Teresa Ivan, Nyah Funderburke, Erin Little, and Rachel Bockrath (1:27.59), the 400 free relay team of Little, Sienna Angove, Ivan, and Bockrath (3:11.53), the 800 free relay team of Angove, Tia Lindsay, Little, and Bockrath (7:00.77) and the 200 medley relay team of Funderburke, Maria Ramos, Paige Hall, and Ivan (1:36.00).
• Paola Pineda Vazquez and Lena Hentschel have qualified for NCAA Zones on the 1-meter, 3-meter, and platform events. Michelle Mazzara and Mia Prusiecki have qualified on the 1-meter and the 3-meter.
• Several Buckeyes have received weekly Big Ten honors. Nikanorov has been recognized as the Freshman of the Week three times, Pineda Vazquez has been awarded Diver of the Week twice, and Hentschel has received the accolade once so far this season.

Men’s Meet Highlights

• The Buckeye men also maintain an undefeated status in dual meets, entering this weekend’s event with a 4-0 record.
• Ohio State’s most recent competition was at the Ohio State Fall Invitational, where the team finished third with 2,164 points.
• Divers Tyler Read, Kylie Flory, and Dom Roberto have already secured qualification for NCAA Zones on the 1-meter, 3-meter, and platform. Clayton Chaplin has qualified on the 1-meter.
• Two program records were established in the first half of the season. Cornelius Jahn set a record in the 200 back, breaking a record that stood for a decade with a time of 1:40.66. Tomas Navikonis achieved a program-record time of 1:31.55 in the 200 free.
• The Buckeyes have garnered multiple weekly Big Ten honors. Navikonis and Tristan Jankovics have been designated as Swimmer of the Week, Joseph Roth, Martin Perecinsky, and Jahn have received Freshman of the Week recognition, and Kylie Flory has been named Diver of the Week once thus far this season.
