Job Responsibilities

The registered nurse (RN) within the Mayo Clinic Department of Nursing Enterprise Staffing Pool will furnish staffing assistance across Mayo Clinic locations (Rochester, Cannon Falls, New Prague, and Waseca) as dictated by staffing requirements and patient care demands.

The registered nurse (RN) is responsible for orchestrating nursing care, which encompasses direct patient support, patient/family education, and care transitions. The RN advocates for professional nursing practices across various settings and through the continuum of care to fulfill the needs of patients and their families. The RN will operate within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which entails accountability for planning, executing, assessing, and communicating all phases of nursing care for designated patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice form the foundation for RN practice. The RN exhibits leadership through roles such as preceptor, formal and informal leadership tasks, and quality enhancement initiatives. The RN allocates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, financial responsibility, and resource availability. The RN demonstrates excellent communication abilities; is adept at mentoring and teaching; and may engage in committees or projects. The registered nurse (RN) in the Mayo Clinic Department of Nursing Central Staffing Pool will offer backup staffing assistance across Mayo Clinic nursing sites as dictated by staffing and patient care requirements. As an employee of Mayo Clinic, the float pool RN embodies Mayo Clinic’s core values and culture. The RN will routinely travel to various locations. Flexibility and adaptability are critical in work assignments and schedules. 

This position qualifies for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will necessitate state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Throughout the selection process, you may engage in a virtual (pre-recorded) interview that you can complete at your convenience. A question will be presented on your screen during the virtual interview, and you will have an opportunity to contemplate each question before answering. You will have the chance to re-record your response to each question — only the final recording will be viewed by Mayo Clinic. The complete interview will be evaluated by a Mayo Clinic staff member, and you will be informed of subsequent steps as necessary.

Qualifications

Prerequisites for Med Surg Travel RNs:

Completion of a nursing program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). If the nursing program attended was not accredited by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA, a minimum of one year of RN experience in an appropriate care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.

All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with an RN start date of April 1, 2020, and onward must present documented proof of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years after the RN start date.

All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with an RN start date before April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as per the degree requirement program in effect at the time of hire.

1 year of RN experience (within the last two years) in Operating Room, PACU, or Intensive Care Unit practice settings depending on open position(s).

Additional Qualifications:

  • Preferred one year of RN experience in an appropriate care environment.
  • Preferred experience as an external traveler or within the float pool.
  • Outstanding communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Experience working collaboratively within a team atmosphere.
  • Required computer skills; previous experience with electronic medical record systems is a plus.
  • Willingness to work varying hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends; some roles may necessitate on-call duties.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable circumstances in the workplace.
  • Proven leadership, effective communication, and strong critical thinking capabilities.

Licensure and Certifications:

Current multi-state RN licenses: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Florida.

Valid driver’s license, accompanied by a clean driving record.

Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers – completion certificate required, must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the completion certificate or transcripts, including your full name, must be uploaded to your profile for consideration. We will solely accept completion certificates from the following organizations:

  • American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)
  • Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)

 Additional specialty training/certification as required by the work area.

This role offers a flat rate of $70 per hour along with additional shift differentials, monthly stipends, and travel differentials.
