Greetings Windows Insiders, today we are launching Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27774 for the Canary Channel. We are making ISOs available for this build – they can be obtained here.

Additionally, we do not have plans to release SDKs for the 27xxx series builds at this moment.

Modifications and Enhancements

[General]

  • This update encompasses a minor set of enhancements and fixes that elevate the overall experience for Insiders using this build on their devices.

[Windows Setup]

  • During the installation of Windows from installation media, a confirmation dialog will now appear when formatting or removing partitions.

[Administrator Protection]

  • Administrator protection can now be activated from Windows Security settings within the Account Protection tab. This feature allows users to enable it without the need for assistance from IT administrators. Moreover, Windows home users can access Administrator protection via Windows Security settings. Changing this option necessitates a reboot of Windows.

  • With administrator protection activated, the prompt seeking user approval for elevating untrusted and unsigned applications will now feature enlarged color-coded areas which will extend downward over the application description.

Corrections

[General]

  • Resolved a fundamental issue that prevented accent-colored window borders from displaying when enabled, shadows around windows from appearing when enabled, and the animations for launching windows (and others) from showing even though the option to display animations is disabled in the latest Canary builds.

[Other]

  • Corrected a fundamental problem that caused the Xbox app to sometimes fail to launch with a “Please try again” error in the previous two Canary builds.

Known Concerns

[General]

  • [IMPORTANT NOTE FOR COPILOT+ PCs] If you are transitioning to the Canary Channel on a new Copilot+ PC from the Dev Channel, Release Preview Channel, or retail, you will lose access to Windows Hello PIN and biometric sign-in with error 0xd0000225 and the message “Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available”. You can recreate your PIN by clicking “Set up my PIN”.
  • We are addressing a problem where SFC /scannow reveals errors each time it is executed.

[File Explorer]

  • Should you open a File Explorer window and minimize it in this build, it may not render properly upon restoration.

[Remote Desktop]

  • [NEW] Utilizing MTSC.exe for Remote Desktop may encounter failure on this build with error 0x80080005. As a temporary solution, please run as administrator.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel

  • The builds we issue to the Canary Channel reflect the most recent platform modifications early in the development lifecycle and should not be regarded as tied to any particular version of Windows. The features and experiences included in these builds may never reach release as we explore various concepts and gather feedback. Over time, features may evolve, be removed, or substituted and not be released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could appear in upcoming Windows versions when they are ready.
  • Numerous features in the Canary Channel are deployed using Control Feature Rollout technology, initially starting with a select group of Insiders and gradually expanding as we monitor feedback to assess the reception before making them available to everyone in this channel.
  • Some features may first appear in the Dev and Beta Channels before becoming available in the Canary Channel.
  • Some features that are actively being developed and previewed with Windows Insiders may not be completely localized, with localization occurring gradually as features are finalized. If you encounter issues with localization in your language, please report those issues to us through the Feedback Hub.
  • To exit the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 will be necessary. Please remember – Insiders cannot switch to a channel that is receiving builds with lower build numbers without performing a clean installation of Windows 11 due to technical setup requirements.
  • The desktop watermark displayed at the lower right corner of the desktop is standard for these pre-release builds.
  • Visit Flight Hub for an overview of which build resides in which Insider channel.

Thank you,
Amanda & Brandon
