Ensure that your mobile phone is always charged with a charger for emergencies. Regardless of your destination, inform at least one person of where you are going and the route you are taking. If you become stranded or lack a signal, they can notify the authorities.

Be sure to pack water and non-perishable snacks. You have no idea how long you might be immobilized. Turn on your hazard lights so that others are aware of your presence. Under no circumstances should you exit your vehicle near moving traffic.

“There are occasions when the roads are extremely slick and someone could collide with you,” Colorado State Patrol Trooper Sherri Mendez remarked. “I would prefer to remain secure in my vehicle than to be outside with an increased chance of being struck by another vehicle.”
