SEATTLE – The women’s track and field squad from Hawai’i commenced the 2024 indoor season with a spectacular performance, achieving numerous program top-10 records and victories at the UW Preview held on Friday at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
 
The Rainbow Wahine recorded 11 new school top 10 records in the annals, with three athletes from UH capturing event titles, while Isabella Kneeshaw established a school record in the 600m event, underscoring the inaugural day of the indoor track and field season.
 
Maya Holman commenced the day with a program top-10 mark in her debut for UH, clocking the fourth-fastest 60m hurdle time in the history of the school with an 8.67 in the preliminaries. Following that, Kneeshaw recorded her inaugural individual school record with a time of 1:32.00 in the 600m, significantly surpassing the former record of 1:35.57.
 
A cohort of freshmen achieved top-10 marks during their initial collegiate track and field competition, beginning with Nora Fischer and Amelie Fairclough in the 400m. Fischer ascended to sixth in program history with a time of 57.24, while Fairclough entered seventh in UH history with a mark of 57.57. Lucy Becker posted the fourth-fastest 1000m time in program records with a time of 2:59.74, and Lucy Milliner registered a time of 2:09.56 in the 800m, moving to second all-time at UH.
 
Samaria Vital commenced her senior season by entering the program’s top 10 in the weight throw, securing the No. 9 position with a throw of 16.05m. Meanwhile, Lilian Turban entered the UH indoor shot put top 10 with a throw of 13.81m, placing her in 10th position. A high jump All-American from the previous year, Turban also commenced her season powerfully in that event, clinching first place in the meet by clearing 1.81m.
 
Kristin Cook sustained a strong day for the UH sprinters by equaling her personal best and recording the sixth-fastest time in school history for the 200m with a mark of 25.15. Emilie Kirk Langschwager initiated her indoor season by ascending the school 3000m top 10 list, reaching second all-time with a time of 9:43.78.
 
Holman augmented her impressive debut, concluding the day by entering the UH long jump top 10 with a mark of 5.60m, positioning herself in ninth.
 
Defending MPSF triple jump champion Tara Wyllie had a robust start to her season, winning the event with a mark of 12.20m. Wyllie also qualified for the 60m hurdle finals with a time of 8.76 in the preliminaries. Helen Hoadley commenced her pole vault season with a victory, achieving 4.01m as she aims to continue building on her 2024 MPSF indoor title.  
 
The Rainbow Wahine will conclude their activities in Seattle Saturday morning at the Mile City Invitational, hosted by Washington, starting at 8 a.m. HT.
