Do you recall sitting on the floor as a child, sifting through boxes of vintage photographs? I have vivid memories of sitting cross-legged on the floor, examining photo after photo, surrounded by my sisters. We would chuckle as we reminisced about tiny moments caught on our little Kodak cameras. Since that time, amidst a hurried and consumer-driven world, I believe we have lost something significant. When was the last occasion you held a photograph in your palm?

In today’s world, photographs aren’t nearly as concrete. We navigate our lives daily through our phones. There’s scarcely anything you can physically touch – it’s all digital.

Imagine this…..

You hear a knock at your door, and a package has arrived. When you bring it inside and tear off the wrapping, it’s a petite white box filled with your wedding memories. Your gallery is finally prepared for you to explore! You’ve been anticipating this for weeks, and you excitedly call your husband. He needs to come home, and quickly! You don’t want this moment to pass by too swiftly. Rather than using your lunch break to scroll through your online gallery and share your favorites with him via text, you place the box on the table and await your special time together. At day’s end, you pour yourselves a glass of wine. You ignite a fire and wrap yourselves in a snug blanket. Then, you open the box, and every moment, every detail from your day floods back to you. Tears well up as you see the emotion in your husband’s eyes while he watches you prepare for the first time. You grasp each other’s hands tightly as he witnesses you walking down the aisle again. When you hold the photo of your grandparents dancing, you reflect on how fortunate you are to have their marriage as an example. You appreciate how stunning your mom appears in the dress she chose. You laugh at the candid moments with your closest friends. You can hardly believe these memories are yours to cherish.

One day, far in the future, when your grandchildren are racing through your home, playing hide and seek in closets and rummaging through your old belongings, I hope they discover your little white box. A box brimming with timeless memories. They’ll gaze at your joyful expressions, your elegant gown, and their grandpa’s tears as you traverse down the aisle, and think to themselves, “Wow, they were so in love.”
