Prior to diving into sharing our views regarding Ted Price’s long-anticipated and truly well-deserved retirement, we wish to express our genuine gratitude to everyone who has reached out to Insomniac concerning the well-being of our employees and the Burbank studio during the devastating fires in the Los Angeles area. These fires have severely impacted the neighborhoods surrounding us. We remain dedicated to supporting each other and maintaining daily communication with Sony Interactive Entertainment to provide the most current information and resources to all affected.

Announcing that Ted is retiring from Insomniac Games remains just as moving to write as it has been to contemplate. The three of us – Chad, Jen, and Ryan – have collaborated closely with Ted for many years. He’s not merely our chief, but also a longtime companion. And indeed a remarkable one. Ted will be missed for countless reasons.

One of Ted’s remarkable attributes is his capacity to motivate those around him to develop. Ted has consistently exemplified how to not only articulate the right message but also to embody it. This applies to both our games and our conduct as leaders and as a studio.

Observing Ted’s approach for decades has equipped us to undertake the challenge of stepping into Ted’s colossal, canoe-sized footwear. None of us should or can attempt to “imitate Ted” – we need to remain authentic to ourselves and our individual leadership approaches. Nonetheless, we can confidently say that we will often reflect, “What would Ted do?” as part of our personal and collective decision-making process.

Now you might be curious, “So, who exactly are you three and what can we anticipate from you in the future?” We would like to reveal a little more about ourselves, along with some perspective on how we envision our responsibilities as co-studio heads.

I commenced my journey at Insomniac during the PlayStation 2 era, initially focusing on studio marketing and communications, before swiftly transitioning into the role of Insomniac’s inaugural community director, aiding in the establishment of this role within the PlayStation ecosystem. I became a member of Insomniac’s senior leadership group a few years back and have held various studio positions including Head of Franchise Strategy & Studio Relations. In that position, I collaborated with teams both within and outside of Sony Interactive on the how and when we communicate about our games, including in-game creative integrations. More recently, I’ve acted as Head of Brand & Leadership Strategy, ensuring that through communications, coaching, and cultural development, Insomniac presents an outward narrative that aligns with our internal beliefs and actions.

Outside of work, I engage in gaming with my family nearly every evening. We took pleasure in completing Astro Bot and Lego Horizon Adventures over the winter vacation. Additionally, I thoroughly enjoy cycling (both road and gravel).

Ryan Schneider, Co-Studio Head, Insomniac Games

I became a part of our outstanding studio eight years back as CFO and Head of Finance, and since then, my heart has belonged to our team. Within the leadership team, I provide direct support to our development squads across all titles, managing project planning, production strategy, business operations, resource allocation, and co-development collaborations. Partnering with the finest team globally, we’ve launched 12 games from my initial day, and I am truly thrilled about the remarkable experiences we’ll create for gamers in the future.

Prior to my journey with Insomniac Games, I held a senior finance role, offering strategic and financial oversight to international tech and entertainment firms.

I am zealous about fostering innovations that enhance our studio and community. Beyond work, I assist Glendale’s local libraries and enjoy gaming with my children. During the holidays, I got engrossed in Astro Bot and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered—and cherished those memorable adventures.

Jen Huang, Co-Studio Head, Insomniac Games

One afternoon, I acquired a copy of Spyro The Dragon for Research™ reasons. I was amazed by its allure and meticulous attention to detail – evidently, this was crafted by a team at the pinnacle of their profession, and I wanted to uncover their secrets.

I joined Insomniac in 1998. Since that point, I’ve had the privilege to be part of five generations of PlayStation in roles such as Environment Artist, Art Director, Studio Director for the Durham studio, and – starting in 2017 – as the Head of Creative. As a senior leader, I assist the creative, narrative, and research teams across all titles to ensure that our games are launched with a distinctly Insomniac vision and a high level of refinement.

So what insights did I gain? Primarily that extraordinary things happen when talented individuals build upon one another’s ideas, even while they challenge each other to hone their craft. In my new capacity, I look forward to collaborating with Ryan and Jen to uphold Insomniac’s legacy of creative teamwork.

Chad Dezern, Co-Studio Head, Insomniac Games

Our collective aim is to maintain the essence that has rendered Insomniac distinctive for over 30 years while investigating ways in which we can strategically progress to prosper in the coming decades.

We will persist in valuing our studio culture, anchored in transparency and teamwork. We aspire to create an environment where our staff can deliver their finest work throughout their careers.

What does all of this signify for our players and supporters? We intend to keep developing the games you cherish while nurturing the individuals who create them. This corresponds with our studio vision of making an affirmative and enduring influence on people’s lives.

We recognize that this is significant news and likely a lot to take in. Ted is an industry icon, credited with launching and creatively directing three legendary PlayStation franchises: Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance: Fall of Man. One after another. He has assisted us through each PlayStation console generation and beyond.

Ted has also established the groundwork for Insomniac as one of the sector’s all-time most accomplished studio leaders. Now, it is our responsibility to enable Insomniac to flourish far into the future. Thanks to Ted’s mentorship and direction, we are prepared.
