Aiming to encourage the following era of scientists and engineers, Sandia’s Livermore web site hosted almost 200 college students from fifth by way of twelfth grades for Kids Day on June 25.

“The success of Kids Day is a direct result of everyone’s commitment to teamwork,” stated Community Relations Specialist Michelle Walker-Wade, who helped coordinate greater than 50 volunteers for the day. “It really speaks favorably for the Integrated Security Solutions Division’s commitment to a unified approach to our work.”

Sandians arrange quite a lot of actions for hosts and their visitors to discover, together with excursions of the Combustion Research Facility, a cyber escape room and rocket-on-string races. Volunteers from the Lawrence Hall of Science hosted STEM Festival enjoyable with Phenomenal Physics, and Engineering with Hydraulics.

Sandia’s Workplace Improvement Network organized a Lunch for Kids neighborhood service exercise, packing 113 lunches to the Tri-Valley Food Bank. Participants embellished the luggage and added different surprises, akin to origami cranes.

“These lunches were generously donated, thoughtfully prepared and beautifully decorated by Sandians and their kids,” stated Kelly Nykodym, WIN program lead for the division. “This activity not only brought our community together but also allowed us to make a meaningful impact by supporting local children in need.”

Before job shadowing Sandians within the afternoon, college students visited the Stronger Together: Employee Wellness Day show, which featured a photobooth with Chip Watson the Robot Dog and demonstrations on correct backpack carrying and handwashing strategies.

“Attendees enjoyed the variety of activities available,” Michelle stated. “I personally love seeing our Sandians so happy. Whether they were hosting a young guest or sharing their work and expertise, the joy on their faces is priceless.”
