China floods: 30 killed in Beijing after days of heavy rain

A younger girl informed the BBC that eight of her relations – together with three aged individuals of their 70s and two younger kids – are at present trapped of their previous household house in Liulimiao Town, in northeast Beijing’s Huairou District.

“They would rather stay in the old house than try to walk downstream,” stated the lady, who declined to provide her identify. “The road has been washed away. If they get stuck on a broken road, it could be even more dangerous.”

She defined that her relations’ newer home, situated nearer to the river, had already collapsed as floodwaters surged by the realm. The older house, whereas barely safer, is on the foot of a hill and faces the chance of landslides.

“He was so lucky,” she recalled. “There was a big tree nearby that he grabbed onto. If it wasn’t there, the flood would’ve swept him away too.”
